More about TomThis distinctively wrapped brass instrument is found in concert bands and orchestras and is usually a Bb/F Double French Horn.
French Horns are popular with students and are available in a wide range of configurations. Many teachers are still divided on which model is ‘best’ for first time players. Whilst a Double French Horn is best, its physical size usually makes them difficult for younger players. As a result, smaller size single Bb and single F instruments are widely available. It is therefore very important to seek advice from your teacher before buying your first French Horn.
Starter French Horns such as the JP161 Single Bb and JP162 Single F cost approximately £250. Top of the range instruments such as the Paxman and Alexander cost around £8,000. Common manufacturers include Paxman, Yamaha, C.G Conn, Holton and JP.
