Your ligature will have a direct effect on the tone of your playing and some argue is as important as your choice of mouthpiece. Available in a range of different designs and materials, ligatures act to keep your reed in position against the mouthpiece enabling it to vibrate and create a sound. Conventional ligatures are usually made out of brass however can also be found in leather, fabric and even string.
Most instruments are supplied with a basic ligature which will be suitable for students progressing through the early grades. Advanced students may look to upgrade their ligature as they start to find their own playing style and interpretation.
