  • My tremendous Yammy!!!.....

    By: ,

I've owned a Holton TR181 for decades and seemingly struggled when activating the F rotor and positioning the slide on 3rd position and lower...Eb and lower. There didn't seem to have the focus on easy-to-find volume; there appeared to be too much resistance!

After so many years of thinking my playing was at fault, I thought to myself, what about the close proximity of the tubing on the G rotor next to my left ear. When researching, l discovered that this was referred to as 'Closed Wrap' which was responsible for this awful resistance.

This Holton just had to be replaced!.....

I love Yamaha instruments as a whole, so I did more research and eventually bought a Yamaha Xeno YBL830G double independent with an 'Open Wrap' system.

The absolute ease with which it speaks across the entire range is astonishing and l absolutely love it. OK, there are more expensive bass trombones available but l wonder whether they justify the extra price and are predominantly better?

    Well done, Yamaha!!!

    Thank you.

    Den Finch.
