A Brief History of Tom Crown Mutes

Before developing Tom Crown mutes, Tom Crown was an active professional trumpeter. In 1968, inspired by a mute that Adolph Herseth used with the piccolo trumpet, Tom produced his own mute which was well received by professional trumpeters.

Building on the trumpet mute success, Tom developed more mutes for brass instruments.  The Tom Crown Mutes are made by a small team in Chicago, and the company is now presided by William Camp.
