A stalwart of the Brass Band community in New Zealand, Steve Miles is well respected for his musical prowess, especially on the Euphonium. Miles recently selected the JP374 Sterling Trigger Euphonium to play describing it as:
“a beautiful instrument to play, and certainly the most economical professional level instrument on the market.”
Steve is a member of the National Brass Band of New Zealand and has been voted ‘Best Soloist’ at the New Zealand Band of the Year Championships. Many UK brass band players will also recognise him as a former principal euphonium for the world famous Brighouse & Rastrick Band. When Steve isn’t performing, he tutors Brass Performance at the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand and is a previous director of the Southern Brass Academy, NZ.
When carrying out a comprehensive test of the JP374 Sterling, Miles said:
“It has a very quiet and smooth valve action which is very fluid. The intonation on this instrument is really very good throughout the range. One of my favourite qualities of the instrument is the sound that it makes. It’s a really singing sound, very responsive. It is a very free blowing instrument.”
The JP374 Sterling Bb Trigger Euphonium is constructed from high grade 80:20 brass throughout and features a 12" bell for superior sound projection. This trigger model offers players easier and more ergonomic tuning with the addition of a tuning slide trigger. As expected from an instrument of this level, the JP374 is fully compensating and includes a 3+1 bottom sprung valve system enabling an alternative fingering system. With high quality components and a pedigree many other makers cannot match, the JP374 Sterling offers players a professional level instrument at a highly affordable price.
The JP374 Sterling Bb Euphonium costs £1,899 and is available to buy now.
