Our next event is streaming live!
Those familiar with our company know that every few months we run workshops in our showroom in Wellington, the last being in February with the Besson artist Tom Hutchinson which we streamed live on Facebook. (If you missed out you can still find it on our page.)
Obviously with the lockdown situation we wanted to try and still provide a workshop opportunity so after a discussion with Yamaha they suggested two young and vivacious brass and woodwind artists that we could run a Q & A session with. (Please look out for details about the second woodwind artist in the next week or so).
Our first event being held on Wednesday 22nd April at 7pm is with Matilda Lloyd, who will be joining us from her parent’s home. Matilda started learning the trumpet when she was 8; a few years of dedication later, Matilda was principal trumpet in the National Youth Orchestra- where she played alongside John Packer’s very own brass specialist Tom Francombe on Tuba.
Matilda burst into the public eye back in 2014 when she was the winner of the BBC Radio 2s Young Brass Award AND winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year Brass final.
Two years later in 2016, Matilda gave her BBC Proms solo debut; performing at the Royal Albert Hall with the BBC Philharmonic. She has also performed at other prestigious venues across the city, not to mention winning more national and international awards.
Matilda graduated with a First Class degree in Music from Cambridge University in 2017 and received a Master’s Degree from the Royal Academy of Music in 2019. In 2018 she released a solo album with pianist John Reid, which was given a four star review from the BBC Music Magazine. All that and she’s only 24?!
