Where to obtain funding

There are a number of organisations out there with pots of money up for grabs.
We realise that not all music students have access to unlimited funds or even limited funds so if you have or are a student who needs a little extra financial help check out the links to the following websites.

EMI

EMI Music Sound Foundation is an independent music education charity, established in 1997 to celebrate the centenary of EMI Records and to improve young peoples' access to music education in the UK & Ireland.

BBC Performing Arts Fund

The BBC Performing Arts Fund is a registered charity, number 1101276.  The charity (formerly Fame Academy Bursary Trust) was set up in 2003 within the BBC.

To date the fund has allocated £2.4m to fund young musicians, from a range of genres, to help them pursue their careers in music.  For further information, please contact the website: www.bbc.co.uk/performingartsfund.co.uk

Wingate Scholarships

Wingate Scholarships are awarded to individuals of great potential or proven excellence who need financial support to undertake pioneering or original work of intellectual, scientific, artistic, social or environmental value, and to outstandingly talented musicians for advanced training.

Youth Music

Youth Music works alongside the formal and community-based sectors to support music-making and training.
Our funding complements music in the national curriculum by supporting activities held mainly outside of school hours and delivered by non-profit making organisations.
Youth Music also aims to support wider aspects of music-making through funding training for music leaders, as well as working strategically to bring together partnership organisations from across the music, education and social sectors.

DFES - Music and Dance Scheme

Hattori Foundation

The Hattori Foundation was established as an Educational Trust by the Hattori Family and granted charity status in 1992.The aim of the Foundation in the field of music is to encourage and assist exceptionally talented young instrumental soloists or chamber ensembles who are British Nationals or resident in the UK and whose talent and achievements give promise of an international career.

PRS Foundation

The PRS Foundation for New Music (PRSF) is a refreshingly approachable and adventurous funding body. As the UK's largest independent funder purely for new music, The Foundation supports a huge range of new music activity - everything from unsigned band showcases to residencies for music creators, from ground-breaking commissions to live electronica.

Benslow Music Trust

Now over 70 years old, the Instrument Loan Scheme exists to lend high quality (mainly strings with some woodwind) instruments to promising young players and students throughout the country, who are unable to afford or obtain a suitable instrument of their own.

The National Foundation for Gifted and Creative Children

The National Foundation for Gifted and Creative Children was formed over 30 years ago. The main goal of The Foundation was to get much needed information to the parents of gifted children. The need is still there. Many gifted children are being destroyed in the public education system. Many gifted children are being falsely labeled with ADD as well as ADHD. And many parents are unaware their child/children could be potentially gifted. The Foundation's main objective is to reach out and help these precious children. The National Foundation for Gifted and Creative Children is a non-profit, non-sectarian, organization. Please feel free to download the complete packet of information provided by the Foundation as well as the informative news articles.

Association of Charitable Foundations

The Association of Charitable Foundations is primarily an information and support organisation for grant-making trusts and foundations in the UK. It does not make grants itself, and does not publish information beyond what is contained on this website.
